Topic: Non Compete Agreements
This session will cover highlights from recent cases in Texas concerning non-competes. Additionally, it will present tips for drafting non-compete and non-solicit agreements. It will also highlight some public policy concerns with non-compete agreements. This Legal Hour presentation is a must for Human Resources professionals when considering applicants currently subject to a non-compete from a former employer and for new-hires when the hiring employer is considering a non-compete as a condition of hire.
Amber is Board Certified in Labor & Employment Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, and is a trial lawyer who has extensive experience representing and advising clients in traditional labor relations, such as collective bargaining, representation elections, decertification elections, unfair labor practice charges, arbitrating grievances, contract administration and interpretation, and union avoidance strategies. Amber also serves as the Hiring Partner for the firm’s Dallas office.
Amber’s litigation experience also includes regularly representing clients in wage and hour collective and class actions, trade secrets and post-employment restrictive covenant disputes, and complex employment discrimination. Amber’s practice also focuses on defending employers before administrative agencies, such as the NLRB, EEOC, DOL, and OFCCP. Regarding the OFCCP, Amber’s work focuses on affirmative action work and audit defense, and advising and counseling clients on various diversity and inclusion policies and practices.
Amber is admitted to practice in the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, District of Columbia, the Northern District of Texas, Eastern District of Texas, Western District of Texas, Southern District of Texas, and the Eastern District of Oklahoma.

Mike Coffey, SPHR, is a human resources consultant helping employers make successful hiring decisions. He is also president of Imperative Information Group, a Fort Worth-based background investigations firm he founded in 1999.
Mike is a sought-after conference speaker in the areas of employee selection, corporate investigations, background checks, and employers’ use of criminal history information.
Mike maintains his certification as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) through the HR Certification Institute. He is also a Senior Certified Professional through the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM-SCP).
Mike is a past-president of the Fort Worth Human Resource Management Association and currently serves as a District Director for Texas SHRM. He is also a board member for the Texas Association of Business, which is Texas’ state chamber of commerce. Mike is also a licensed private investigator (license A09357) and past director for the Texas Association of Licensed Investigators.
